As the novel Coronovirus continues to spread in China and around the world there is panic and lots of unenlightenment. Especially among the parents where kids are school going and are constantly in touch with 100 other people.
The virus has already spread in many countries and its number is increasing. India is trying to fight against it by screening people travelling from China at the airports of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin. Already many students from Wusan university are airlifted and are sent in isolation and fortunately, none has shown the symptoms of infection.
First case in India was reported in Kerala and it has been handled with all the necessary precautions. RML Hospital, New Delhi has prepared itself to handle the situation without panic and unnecessary mayhem. Though our government claims to be prepared for handling it we should ourselves be updated about the know-how and how to take care of our family.
What coronavirus is?
Coronavirus is a family of viruses that causes illnesses ranging from a common cold to severe diseases. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, and breathing difficulties, with acute respiratory distress syndrome in severe cases.
How it spreads?
The viruses can spread via coughing or sneezing – up to 3 ft. It can also spread if one touches an already infected person or object contaminated with infectious droplets and then touches his or her mouth, nose or eye.
Where and How it started?
The first known and reported case emerged from the chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019. The source of the outbreak has not been identified but some research papers have pointed to bat and snakes as the possible culprits.
What WHO recommends?
1. Wash your hands with soap frequently.
2. Avoid close contact with those who have the symptoms.
3. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing/sneezing.
4. Consume only thoroughly cook meat and eggs.
5. Avoid direct contact with live animals at market
Is there a course of treatment?
There is no vaccine to combat coronavirus yet, however, there are few things that can be done
1.Set up a humidifier in your room
2. Take hot showers to relieve sore throat and cough
3.Drink plenty of drinks
4. Contact your doctor to start medication if symptoms persist
Though this virus is spreading at an unknown pace and still scientists are trying to find a way to fight it, we should stay positive and take desired steps increasing our kids and families immunity and hygiene conditions.
Most importantly stay updated on the warnings and notices issued by government and authorities.
